modified starch prodction line modified starch machine modified starch extruder
Product Description
Production Process of Pregelatinized Starch
- Slurry Preparation: Mix starch and water to prepare a starch milk with a certain concentration. Generally, the concentration of the starch milk is 30% - 40%. For example, put the corn starch into a mixing container, add an appropriate amount of water, and start stirring to evenly disperse the starch.
- Heating and Extrusion: Use a screw extruder for heating and extrusion. During the extrusion process, the barrel temperature is usually controlled at 120 - 170°C. Under the high-temperature and high-pressure environment, the starch granules will absorb water, expand, rupture, and the structure of the starch molecules will be destroyed, resulting in gelatinization.
- Drying: The extruded material is in a soft mass and needs to be dried to reduce the moisture to an appropriate range. For example, use hot air drying to make the product moisture reach about 10% for easy preservation and use.
Uses of Pregelatinized Starch
- Food Industry: It can be used as a thickener in food, such as in puddings and fillings. It can give these foods better consistency and taste. For example, when making pudding, adding pregelatinized starch can make the pudding set and taste smoother.
- Construction Industry: Adding pregelatinized starch to the building putty powder can increase the adhesiveness and plasticity of the putty powder, making the putty adhere better to the wall and be applied more smoothly.
- Pharmaceutical Industry: It is used as a binder for tablets during the pharmaceutical process, helping the drugs to form and ensuring the integrity of the tablets.
The starch is subjected to a wetting treatment so that its moisture content is about 20% and is introduced into an extruder. The temperature of the heated part of the extruder is as high as 120 ° C to 200 ° C and the pressure can be 3-10MPa.
The starch is pushed forward by the screw in the extruder and released through the die hole of a few millimeters. Due to the high pressure difference between the inside of the extruder and the outside atmosphere, the starch is instantly expanded and dried to achieve the pre-gelatinization effect. The screw extrusion process is characterized by continuous production, low energy consumption, low investment, and simple equipment.
